The object of the Wakefield Court Rolls Publishing Series is to publish in calendared form as many of the surviving court rolls of the Manor of Wakefield as shed light on the social history and economy of that large area, which stretched east and west between Normanton and Heptonstall and north and south between Hipperholme and Holmfirth, and includes not only Wakefield, but also Halifax and the Calder valley.

To maximise the interest for historians and genealogists the rolls, which survive in a largely complete series from 1274 to 1925, are not being published in chronological order.

The editor Dr Constance Fraser, has included indexes to allow the reader to trace families who held land in the manor and who also provided the personnel of local administration serving as jurors, constables and sworn men. Occupations are normally indicated after the names of the parties.

As well as purchasing volumes published in this series, you can also subscribe to the section to receive every new volume as it is published, by purchasing a subscription through the Membership section of the shop.
